Instruction will focus on creating the look of pointed pen calligraphy with pencils, markers and paint, a process sometimes referred to as 'faux-lligraphy.' I'll show you how to draw, thicken and join your letters seamlessly using gridded paper, guidelines and my alphabet to create beautiful modern calligraphy.
There will, of course, be yummy fall treats and light refreshments! BYOB welcome. Your hand-lettering toolkit includes: •3.5 hours of hands-on instruction with Leigh, owner of Lovely Scribe Calligraphy •alphabet worksheets •1 handlettered totebag •1 handlettered acrylic wine glass •1 Artists' tracing pad •1 Rhodia gridded sketchbook •1 cork backed ruler •1 triangle (right angle) ruler •1 Precut and hand stained wood board (choose from my predrawn designs or create your own!) •Kneaded eraser •Mechanical pencil •Varied sizes of oil-based paint markers (white and gold) •Bistro chalk markers •China marker •Micron pigma brushes of varying sizes and other goodies!
An open mind!
New year, new hobby! I'm thrilled to offer my Hand-lettering 101 'make-and-take' Workshop here in Sparta! You'll walk away with your toolkit (no after class shopping needed) ready to hand-letter everything in sight after you create your very own wood sign perfect for decorating at home or gift giving. Although the focus will be on making a gorgeous wood sign, the techniques and materials you'll receive can be applied to any surface (think: mirrors, chalkboards, windows, etc.). This class is appropriate for all levels of learners.
With a background in education and over ten years of experience in the classroom, Leigh is able to combine her passion as a teacher and fine art calligrapher through workshops and wedding/ corporate event calligraphy. Her work has been featured on Ruffled Blog, Dear Gray Magazine, Red Oak Weddings, to name a few, and she was recently awarded Best of the Knot in 2015.
